Entered into rest on Saturday, August 1, 2020, Mrs. Marjorie “Marge” A. Rahn, 85, loving wife of 64 years to Arthur “Art” O. Rahn, Jr., DDS. Family members, in addition to her husband, include her sons: Arthur Carl Rahn and Mark Andrew Rahn (wife Melissa, son Colton); daughter: Kristin Louise Rahn.
Born and raised in Minneapolis, MN, Marge graduated from Washburn High School and from St. Olaf College with a degree in education in 1956. At St Olaf she was in the Women’s Senate, on the Homecoming court, a member of Kappa Theta Phi women’s society, and in Toastmistresses. After relocating to Augusta, GA in 1969 she became a member of the Junior League of Augusta. She ran the polls for her voting precinct for several years and played bridge with her friends regularly.
Marge was adopted, and then adopted her three children. Initially a stay at home mom, she spent many hours at Advent Lutheran Church serving on the church council, typing and folding the service bulletins, preparing the church for services, playing the organ, teaching Sunday school, and decorating for every holiday with Patty Williams. She also spent hours filling then washing those little glass communion cups and sewing the Christmon ornaments for the Christmas tree. If Marge wasn’t at home, there was a good chance she was at the church.
As her children began school, Marge and her friends Patty Williams and Margaret Ann Varne started the Bon Appetit catering business. If the Rahn fridge was packed and there was a stack of 13x9 Pyrex pans on the counter, no one was to touch the fridge food because a catering job was underway. Of course Marge was an excellent cook - she was with the group of women led by her friend Grace Carrier who created the 1975 Adventurous Cooking cookbook with recipes of the congregants of Advent Lutheran Church. There are many family recipes that bring back memories and make our mouths water just thinking about them.
After the catering business had run it’s course, Marge pursued her intended career of teaching children. She taught 5 day 4’s at Aldersgate United Methodist Church for almost 25 years. She had a slew of stained sweatshirts with images for every holiday imaginable in her closet. She hosted the Easter egg hunt at the family home on Hereford Farm Road. Marge had a drawer full of drugstore envelopes overflowing with pictures of her Aldersgate kids.
Caregivers at Elmcroft and Brandon Wilde (Arbor) gave to her exceptional care over her 20 year battle with Alzheimers.
